Drowning In Society

  Drowning In Society

We're drowning in this society
with no way out, no way out
faceless corporations exploiting the common man
their employees unable to help
controlled by those above them
unable to make decisions
puppets fighting against the strings to no avail.

We're trapped in a bureaucracy of rules
with no one using reason or logic
just following rules made by some unseen power
some department or committee who feels
they know what is best for us
but living by other rules to benefit only themselves.

We are the Serfs of the modern Barons
kept down so we ‘know our place’
allowed just enough latitude
so as to give us a sense of freedom
without encroaching on the greed
and selfish ambitions of those in power
letting others do our thinking for us
until one day we are unable to think for ourselves.

Though, and I agree, it is fraught with problems, out system still stands above all others simply because of the fact that the serfs are still allowed the opportunity to become barons by way of their own initiative and persperation. Unlike the days of old, our potentials are not limited by our bloodlines or ties to royalty, but by our own minds. We have not because we ask not.

Still, is not poetry a wonderful way to adequately express those fears and dilemmas which often give us pause? Fascinating read.

The reporter sounds the bell, and the voice screams out freedom, man is what he is a reach in the dark, let not the idea die let only the wrong wither on the vine. Liked the rant.. Walt

There's only one place to be free, in our minds.
We can do what we have no control over, but think our own thoughts, have our own ideas, and write our own poems, and be our own persons, wherever and whenever we can.

I don't call it Democracy just because people vote in 500 dictators to run the country!

The puppet master might make me dance, but I choose the music.

Servitude is a choice, as is freedom. We can not be forced to do something we do not wish to do, as we can not be stopped from doing something we are impelled to do from somewhere in the depths of our souls. We can do anything we put our minds to... it all depends on what we put our minds to. Are we putting our minds to simply exist, to follow another's lead, or to take our own path in life and let others follow if they wish. Being in the front is a lonely but gratifying place to be. Do we have the courage to be there? It's up to each and every one of us!

Sorry, your poem sounded so down and crushed I just felt the need to take you by the hand, stand you up, and show you the light at the end of the tunnel. *grin* Have a great day!
