I tried looking around to where I was, but my mind was still fuzzy and wherever I was, it was a very foggy place. I couldn't see a thing through the dense fog. I'd seen a lot of fog from living on the coast, but it was never this dense, dark, or cold. It felt like were needles were poking at me as I wondered through this place. There were walls on both sides of me, and I was taking turns at a random. I couldn't see anything, and one word came to mind: labyrinth. I'd never been in a labyrinth, or even seen one, but I'd read about them. I also knew that there were only two exits, and nearly all the people who entered them, died. I also heard stories that creatures lived in labyrinths, could there be any in this one? And how did I get to this cold and walled in place anyhow? Wasn't I just at the beach back on the islands? I shook my head and felt a sering heat on the back of my neck. I whipped around and saw black smoke rushing towards me. I drew in a breath, and started running away from it. I had no idea where I was going, what I was looking for, and what I would do when I got there. Suddenly I was trapped against a wall, a dead ed. The black smoke was rushing toward me, and I felt claws digging into my right shoulder. I looked around frantically for an escape, you the white walls of the labyrinth lead up into the foggy sky. I held my breath as I was engulfed into the smaok...
I jerked awake panting as I looked around to see where I was. I was back on the islands, and Kayoco was shaking me awake.
"It was just..." I muttered aloud, "a dream..."
"I thought you were dreaming." She said sitting down next to me. "You were mumbling something about a labyrinth. Must of been a nightmare. Anyhow, what happened to Savon?" Kayoco asked her blue eyes sparkling idly. I noticed that she hadn't slept in, her makeup was perfect, and so were her painted nails. Her fingernails were painted red, and so were her exposed tone nails, and I'm sure she made sure to wear sandals. She was the exact opposed I was, a girlie-girl. She want to private school, I went to public, she was part of the "in" group, I was part of the track team. I could go on forever about how different we were. It was amazing that we were friends. She had her long blond hair back in a pony tail and she wore her usual attire, white shirt, and a mini skirt. I really wondered why she didn't just wear jeans or cut offs when she came to the island. I also wondered how we got to be friends so fast, than again, it wasn't surprising during the situations. We were the only two girl in kindergarten, and she was being picked on by the boys. I rushed to her rescue, and beat the crap out of the little boys that were attacking her. ...I was hoping for more of a fight at the time...
I leaned back against the warm sand saying,
"I'm not sure. Think he's sick or something and still on the mainland?" I looked over at the mainland, it was about five miles away. Easy to reach though. It'd be nice if the boats weren't wooden, or at least had a engine though. My dad had a twenty five foot Ken Craft, and he always said, "When this boat dies, it'll be yours." And who pays to repair it? Me. He said it would be a good lesson, and a lot cheaper than buying a completely new one. I on the other hand, just sighed.
"Want to head back?" She asked pulling a tube of lip gloss from the pocket of her light blue shirt, and re applying. When I said, "Do that later!", or "You don't have time for that!", or even, "That's not important! She'd usually reply, "It is important."
"Nah, I want to explore the wreck a bit, some stuff washed up in the storm last week. Want to come?" I offered smiling evilly since I knew she'd say no.
"To watch, yes. To climb around like a money, no." She replied replacing the pink tube in her pocket after capping it. "Aren't you worried about Savon though?"
I looked up at the clouds, shielding my eyes from the noon sun I replied, "Not really."
"Ukey!" She cried back sounding annoyed, "How couldn't you be worried? He's missing, and you are nearly an item."
I instantly turned red saying, "I told you!" I paused before adding more calmly, "It's not like that between us. We're only friends."
"But you look so cute together!" She gushed. "Tomboy brown haired and silver and golden eyed Ukey, with heart-throb silver haired an ice blue eyes Savon. And besides, you're the only girl he pays attention to! The only one! There has to be something between you."
"Yeah," I replied sounding annoyed, "we're friends. And that's it."
"You wouldn't argue my cast so much if you were only friends." She replied with a devilish smile. "And he's so good looking..." She continued, "and mysterious. He says nothing about his past, lives alone, apparently works out with packs like that, and doesn't get involved with anything at school. He'd be great at any sport, but what does he do for fun? Comes out here to fence with you, build things with you, explore with you, and just talks with you."
"See?" I cut in before she was going to continue. "Is building, fencing, exploring, and climbing around ship wreaks romantic?"
"Yes, because he only does it with you." Kayoco said continuing to argue, "You talk, watch the sun set and-"
Suddenly the sky colluded over. Kayoco stopped in mid sentence looking up muttering,
"What?" The sky quickly clouded over, till the sun and any blue sky was covered. It wasn't natural how dense the clouds were, nor how fast it had come. Quickly the fog denseness. The warm summer day quickly melted away and suddenly grew chillingly cold. The fog continued to grow denser till I could hardly see. The wind started lashing out, and it was getting hard to stand up. I saw the from of Kayoco moving around and calling out my name. Even though I heard a familiar, and deep voice call out,
"Ukey! Move!"
I don't know why, but I quickly snapped into action, I grabbed Kayoco's wrist and bolted in a dead run. I looked back ,and through the dense fog I saw the sand melting away; not being engulfed in rising water, just falling away. I ran as fast as I could, Kayoco behind me screaming out as the ground under her feat melted away. She must be nearly running on nothing; there was hardly anything under me as I ran. If I wasn't so fast from track, I most likely wouldn't of made it. We quickly made it to the wreck, and I scrambled to grab onto a piece of splintered wood,I hoped it would hold both of our weights. The ship has smashed sideways, so a lot of it was intact. I was standing on rock, the sand on that side of the fog concealed beach nearly gone. There was a three foot high side of the ship from the rock to the ship. I would of been ready fro a break, if I wasn't being driven by adrenalin. I found the strength to pull myself up onto the side, and Kayoco after me. I ran with her following, to the back of the boat. The cockpit was huge, and there were splintered or rotted wood everywhere. Along with holes. The boat smashed sideways, but a large portion of the deck was still intact. It has the old fashion steering system, of a wooden turned able wheel. The wind was blowing around wooden planks and we knelled behind the wheel attacked to a podium. It was rooted, but it didn't matter just then. Kayoco screamed, and just when I felt the boat starting to move from the lashing waters and whirling wind, it all stopped.
All was silent, the wind stopped blowing, the waters calmed, the fog cleared, and the sun was shining again. I looked up breathing hard, my legs feeling slightly jell-o like. Kayoco whispered,
"Is it over?" I stood up, feeling the warm rays of the sun heating up my body. I looked over the starring wheel and what I saw was simple; oblivion.
