Together up
in the sky.
Its cold tonight
Its dark
And I’m all alone
surrounded by a void
even the sky
has left all its stars
back in the sunset.
Yet there is one up there
Unafraid of that blanket
So dark all around
Just like me
All alone.
I think of reaching out to it
Telling it I understand
It’s not lonely
Cause there is no one around
But because it’s bold
And not frightened to be alone
I know because
I feel the same
All I can do
Is look at it.
Gaze, longing to join it
That one star
The one that’s not afraid
The one that’s been there
Every deep and dark night
The one I’ve come to know
To trust and to long for.
That one star
Is closer than all my friends
It is nearer
Than my own home
Maybe because
It, is my home in the skies.
If I could
I would go there
Then we wouldn’t be alone
Because we would be together.
It twinkles up there
As if blinking while it watches
Maybe even while it waits
Expecting me to join it,
Saying,
“Come on up
My little friend
We could sit up here together
And maybe look down on your world
the one you left behind.”
And maybe I’d close my eyes
And drift into a plain
where I can leave
this void and lonely world
and soar up, towards
that star, as a star myself.
The wind at my feet
The darkness all around
And nothing to stop me
I’ll go to my friend
Up in the sky
And look down on a world
So lost in its own tune
It has forgotten me
And I’ll stay there
As long as my mind let’s me.
It is cold tonight
And it is dark
but I’m no longer alone
I’m content up there
blinking and staring
at the world
till sunrise comes
and brings me back
To a world of light.
Tomorrow
maybe I’ll go back there
on a cold night
when it is dark
and I’m all alone.
