The Magnificent Seven

  The Magnificent Seven

They came into the world alone,
yet were loved by family and friends.
Learned about life as others did,
pushing the envelope, to see how it bends.

All members of one family,
they all had their own parts to play.
The parents trying to guide them along
hoping they'll be something someday.

I call them "The Magnificent Seven"
and this is the way that it goes.
Haley, the oldest is very picky
and at some things she turns up her nose.

Rebecca is all cute and cuddly
she loves all the frills and lace,
Kylie is sort of hell on wheels
with the most adorable face.

Caden will be a race car driver,
if his father has anything to say.
Blake will play baseball,
if the motorcycle doesn't get in the way.

Gabby seems to be more interested,
in getting and playing with toys.
Kendall is coming along just fine
and will be breaking the hearts of the boys!

Seven members and soon will be more.
They all carry a place in my heart.
These are all my grandchildren,
they just call me, the old fart!

I hope they will always be around,
so we can be together to just hang.
There will always be love and acceptance
for "The Magnificent Seven" gang.

I was never fortunate to have grand children, they were not a part of my daughters career plan.
Although she has never said as much I think she regrets it now. They have three cats which they treat like children. Shame really.
Your poem makes me realise even more what I have missed. Lucky you.
Warmest regards,
Brian Dickenson.

Children are a joy and blessing,
to the parents and grandparents as well.
They each have a wonderful story,
they each have a tale to tell.

They bring a smile to our faces
With all their innocent questions
Their funny and profound phrases
So oft' we can learn some lesson

"Out of the mouths of babes"
a phrase so honest and true
Mine have many a time blurted
a gem of truth for me and you

Thanks for sharing this heartfelt piece. It really made me think and appreciate the children in my own life.

What you gonna do when I start adding to your little coed softball lineup?

I know you said you would drive the bus, but being pa-pa I think you should coach and just take all the little ones away from your loving kids for awhile.

No worry pops, Rachel and I aren't having any, any time soon. Nice write though!

Yeah, you "ol' fart"! hehehehe. You and my Dad have a lot in common! See, my Dad is on my case about having kids....I dont have any and I'll be 35! I guess you can call me an old fart soon! But my sister has one, Nathan Andrew Heydenberk. Little SH#$!! He's to much! And for being an Auntie "Nenny" (cause he cant say Jenny) its just perfect for me!!!!! I love him and I'll be alright living my life the way it is with my sister having the babies!!!!! Nothing like being an Aunite "Nenny" I tell you!!!!!!!

I wish I could be as lighthearted as you. You continue to amaze me at your mastery of rhyme and meter. Does it come easily?

This really cute; kids - gotta love 'em! Each one is special in their own way, like snowflakes, not one is the same.

I found a couple small errors: "and this is the wat that it goes" - the word should be 'way'

Also in the line: "and at somethings she turns up her nose" - it should be two words 'some things'.

Regards,
David Pekrul
