In Their Dreams

  In Their Dreams

He lives in a world with dragons.
Riding horses with armor that gleams.
Standing against any evil force,
fighting hard to defend his Queen.

He rides as a noble knight.
A white stallion carries him on his way.
All of these things he does in the night,
then reality comes back with the day.

She lives atop a great castle,
though she's a prisoner and cannot leave.
Waiting for her Prince to arrive
in the rescue she must always believe.

She looks out over the mountains,
hoping her Prince, will find his way.
All of these things she does in the night,
then reality comes back with the day.

It's the dreams that bring them comfort.
Dreams help them to forget their plight.
Their days are spent looking for food,
but their kingdoms come alive with the night!

He has defeated the two headed ogre,
no dragon can stand in his way.
All of these things he does in the night,
then reality comes back with the day.

She dreams of being saved by her Prince.
Riding away on the back of his steed.
He takes her back to his castle
and complies with her every need.

Fancy clothes to wear to the ball.
Escorted to watch Shakespeare's play.
All of these things she does in the night,
then reality comes back with the day.

They struggle through their daily lives,
yet there's no escape, or so it seems.
For each night when the sun goes down,
they live the good life in their dreams!

I like that phrase "reality comes back with the day". It's so true. We all dream a world in which we would like to live in at nighttime, but then we resign ourselves to the reality of the day... *sigh* Great poem!

Anthony, be careful, it sounds like you're describing marriage here! He, he! I have lots of fun when I dream, so much so that I don't want to wake up. I like the Shakespearian feel to this poem and the difference between night and day.

So oft' I see the fair maiden
dreaming of all that could be
Many a girl in daydreams accomplish
what's difficult in the day to see

I like how there's a boy - a man,
in your poem who dreams as well
Whose dreams weave a tale
an interesting story to tell

While reading your poem today
I couldn't help but wonder
If the two were strangers,
or of each other they did ponder

I ravishly read each word
hoping to read a happy ending
Hoping some union of souls
was the message you were sending

Alas 'twas not to be, I guess
but still I loved this read
Though it left me hungry for more
and only teased my inner need

I am studying the Middle Ages in school right now, and this sort of ties in with it...you know...the knight and everything? Okay LOL that's not the point. The point is that I LOVE this poem!!!! Good job!!!

I like it too. It's an interesting balance we all have: the world of our imagination vs. "reality." Or maybe this dichotomy isn't so real after all. Makes me think of Don Quixote.

Wow, this is great. We all daydream from time to time, but to have to use dreams to escape horrible living conditions is really sad. You have done an excellent job on this piece. (love the picture too.)
Sorry, I only have 2 points left in my account, but they are yours. I'll give you the rest when I get them.
