Pictures In My Mind
by David Pekrul
copyright 03-09-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

I see my thoughts as pictures,
yet try to explain them in words,
limited by a set of rules,
bound and strangled by nouns, adjectives
and verbs.

I feel emotions as intense waves
bombarding my psyche,
and weights upon my soul,
yet try to express them with symbolic
patterns on paper.

I live in a world of abstracts;
feelings; sensations; moods;
unable to say what is in my thoughts
and being,
as words alone are not enough.

Very good free verse, good rhythm to the words and the meter holds steady for the most part. You write on this subject very cleverly and with a subtle depth that takes the reader by surprise. One is almost compelled to go back and reread to see what may have been missed. The line "bound and strangled by nouns, adjectives
and verbs." says so much and is exactly how a writer feels at times, excellent phrase and a very good write.

The life of a poet is a neverending effort to express feelings through words. As you say sometimes this is a daunting task. You have expressed this very well. Thanks, Anthony

You remind me of "The Waves" by Virginia Woolf; a very unusual novel. All of the characters struggle with defining their identities. Bernard, the writer, talks of the paradox of expressing what essentially no art form can express, yet talks of the need to do just that, anyway.
