I thought I Knew

  I thought I Knew

I thought I knew
all there was to know
but then I burst through-
through the barrier that held me back.

I saw a new world
one I barely reconized.
the sky was a familiar blue-
it awoke old memories annew.

as I explore this world
so old and worn-
I see the faces of people
I once knew...now forlorn.

They walk about the streets uncaring...
faces blank not knowing where
or to whom they are going
and I watch them...

I see the pain on their faces
and it brings a sudden jolt-
of memories, memories flooding my head
sudden rage fills me, overcome then with grief...

a grief that fills me up and drowns me
till I am a lost soul,
wandering the earth like my friends..
devoid of all emotion, except pain.

and I thought I knew...
what it was like,
to truely feel pain
and to hurt inside.

But... I didn't.
