When words won't come and rhymes are scarce
When writer's block has caged me in
I creep unto her secret chambers
And gently, softly, quiety... let myself in
I tip toe carefully to where she sleeps
And brush the hair away from her face
I kneel discreetly beside her bed
Covered in blankets of satin and lace
"Wake up my pet," I whisper
"I need your help once again.
I've come to rely on your assistance
My writing pal, my inspiration's friend."
I never wear my welcome out
Nor her graciousness abuse
Without me, she'd have no outlet
Mutually reliant, me and my muse
I seem to remember something abotu a bet with a guy at the golf course where you had to write a poem about something in a short amount of time and you couldn't think of anything and wrote this to win?
I can relate. I go through long stretches when nothing creative happens and then a burst of creativity happens. I find when I take the 'ego' out of my motivation to write, it just happens the way it's supposed to.
You clearly have written a lot though, and I continue to enjoy your work.
This is exactly how I felt when I wrote "The Words Are Gone". Like a true poet you turned the feeling of 'nothing to write' into a poem.
I find that when I get a blank, I just forget about writing; if I try too hard to think of something, nothing happens; if I just let my mind go into neutral, eventually ideas start coming again.
