Two Hundred, Two Hundred and One!

Two Hundred, Two Hundred and One!

This work was planned to be my 200th poem. In the eighties a group of my friends asked me once how many poems I had written. When we counted them, there was 173. I told everyone that when I wrote 199, that my next poem would be titled 200. They asked what it was going to be about and I said I would decide that when I was at that point. Months went by, parties were had (some really good ones) and They said how many now? I counted them and I already had wrote the 200th poem just before the count was done. So hence the title.
I planned to put this up on the site when my first poem had been read 200 times....wouldn't you know, My poetry while I believe is good, was not the first to be read 200 times...it was a recipe for Hot Wings. A fitting story wouldn't you say? Please enjoy, Anthony

Two Hundred, Two Hundred and One!

This is a story
about a few tales,
like Gulliver's Travels,
or how Columbus sailed.

Something that was planned
but forgotten, too!
Was supposed to be one thing,
but was another when through.

Supposed to be two hundred
by the time it was done.
Yet when a recount was taken
it was two hundred and one.

A simple mistake,
but a mistake none the less.
What seemed so precise,
became only a close guess!

Well written Anthony. It just about sums up life. So many times we think we have it nailed, only to hit our thumb.

Time to take a bow, even writing 100 poems is a proud feat for any author! Nicely done!

Hey, this is cute. To think that even forgetting how many poems you have written could inspire even another poem. (only in the world of a poet).

The nature of this site is that we critique each others poetry, so in the spirit of kindness, I must make a few critiques:

You often use the word 'suppose'; in the context it is written, it should be 'supposed'.

To make the last stanza tighter, try dropping the word 'close'. (only a suggestion).

Thanks for all your great writes,
David Pekrul

What's that phrase... close only counts in horseshoes... lol.

And here I thought it was going to be about counting beer bottles on the wall. Oh wait, that song counts them down... not forward (which is a good thing... I'd hate to imagine the scenario for counting them forward)!

Two hundred, two hundred and one -
Not quite what you imagined
When first the thought begun!

Two hundred, two hundred and one -
A few parties and poems later
You must have had a lot of fun!

Two hundred, two hundred and one -
When keeping count of your poems
It seems you forgot to count one!

Two hundred, two hundred and one -
Planning to post it on 200 reads
200 it was, but on the wrong one!

Two hundred, two hundred and one -
Another rhyming rendition displayed
Another tale like Gulliver's spun!
