Yesterday's Hero
by Delaney Lindley (Age: 18)
copyright 03-24-2005

Age Rating: 13 to 127

Sitting in the feild
Feeling the wind blow,
Nobody to disturb the peace
Nobody knows...

Hands that held a sword
And brought down monsters,
Lips that sang lullabies
And freed a princess from a curse
But things couldn't get worse...

When nobody calls...
Nobody calls

Smile to the sun
Smell the flowers,
Talk for a while
To whittle away the hours

Smile to yourself
Watch the sun rise,
When you're alone
Nobody's there to see you cry

Old and feeble
The years have passed
Since the streets celebrated you
And someone called your name last

The unsung hero
Whose name was forgotten in an instant
When you were around you saved the day
And it made all the difference didn't it?

But nobody calls...
Nobody calls

You're the one they forgot
The one they used to know,
When you're not so new anymore
You become "Yesterday's Hero"

Everyone does not forget. Someone always remembers. Your poem is very heartfelt and I liked the poem and am sad that anyone had to experence this feeling. I know how it feels to think you are all alone. I went threw a divorce that also took my children away. For years I crIed myself to sleep. It will get better, I see my kids alot now! Thanks, Anthony
