Just Speak Your Mind

  Just Speak Your Mind

What's with all the 'gushy' poems
That people like to write?
Now, I would rather state my case,
Than give up all my fight.

There's many things that we can say,
And many points of view,
And when we think we've seen it all,
We find there's something new.

There's corporations, governments,
And people in the 'know',
And they all have their stories, and
The poetry will flow.

And when you think that all is said,
And you have had your day,
Another viewpoint comes along,
And you have more to say.

So speak your mind, express your thoughts,
And with your words persist,
If you don't say a thing at all,
You'll know your chance was missed.

I do like to speak my mind when the occasion calls for me to do so.
But I also like "mushy" poems, life is not always grim, and as for politics, they are usually in the realm of fairy stories anyway.

In the past I usually find I keep my thoughts to myself but recently I find (as I grow older) I say what I think. I am a Parish Councillor and at a recent Parish Council meeting I surprised myself by getting very heated over the siting of a Beer Garden next to a Chapel of Rest even to telling our local Councillor that his was a stupid remark. Thanks for this piece its nice to know people stand up for themselves. Doreen

very good poem although you could state your case in many different ways other than politics but its a good poem i really like it i'll have to go read more of your stuff now keep writing.

There is always another spin on everything. Poets write about mushy stuff cause they don't want to put another spin on politics. Talk about boring, who reads political poems...candidates? Thanks, Anthony

It's so true: the paradox of knowing that our own opinions, rationalizations, and beliefs are all impermanent and could drastically change with age and time, yet one must still commit to some statement or opinion, depending on the current context and circumstances one finds oneself at a given time.
Such is life!

Jim.
