We Worry And Complain

by David Pekrul
copyright 03-29-2005

Age Rating: 10 +

We complain about the weather,
But there’s nothing we can do,
We worry about the world at war,
But that’s beyond us too.

We tend to get an ulcer
When we worry and complain,
We give such effort to ‘our cause’,
But all things stay the same.

We want to change the world,
But it seems outside our grasp,
The future is beyond our reach,
And what is past is past.

There are some things we can’t control,
And worry bodes not well,
They may get better; may get worse,
But only time will tell.

Let’s concentrate our efforts
On the things within our reach,
Like spending time with one small child,
Instructing him and teach.

To show him how to live his life,
So that when he grows up,
He too will find some child to help,
To mentor and instruct.

In this small way we’ll change the world,
And those who dwell within,
We may not win the war outside,
But this war we can win.

Thank you for writing this! Your point is very well made and well taken. None of us can travel into the past to change it so we have to accept our past as the past. The future is too unpredictable. So we have to live for today. If we can bring one child up right today and thus change the future then we have accomplished quite a feat.
I seen no spelling or grammar mistakes in your poem. Keep writing.

Amen and Amen! You have said a mouthful and then some! This is absolutely stunning work and masterfully spoken! I have often said that we don't have time travel capabilities and if we did we would just muddle things up worse than they are anyway. Our time travel is now. Amen my friend!

This is so true. When one does not get about as much as one would want you can still help to change things even if it is quietly. I like this piece. Doreen
