The Words We Choose
by David Pekrul
copyright 03-30-2005

Age Rating: 7 to 127

How did we use our words today?
We really must consider,
For did they help build someone up,
Or leave him feeling bitter?

We often speak before we think,
It's such a nasty habit,
Those words stay there to leave such pain,
To take ones heart and stab it.

We like to say we speak our mind,
And that we are so right.
We say we only speak what's true,
At times our words may bite.

But maybe we should think of others,
How do we sound to them?
To say that we're just being us,
Is really wearing thin.

Let's live a day as those we scorn,
And try to wear their shoes,
And if we really do these things,
We'll watch the words we choose.

So true, how often we live on auto-pilot, unconscious of our language, talking at each other instead of to each other; how even a "white lie" or seemingly benign gossip can still ultimately hurt someone.
Thanks for the reminder we all can use.

Jim

I believe it goes, Do unto others.... This is good subject matter. You are on a poetry roll lately. Keep up the good work, Anthony
