My sister had seven kids, seven cats and untold chores. It was a surprising situation for someone who had wanted the world at her feet. She was a singer and musical stage actress who never planned to marry. I wondered how she felt about her old dreams when she stopped to think about them.
Cranky kids with runny noses
Don't compare with wine and roses,
Dirty diapers, soiled clothes
Can't compare with silken hose.
Which are better? Can you guess?
All this work brings happiness.
Life is empty without love,
Marriage is a well-worn glove;
Comfy, cozy, sweet, secure,
Hopes and dreams and love concur.
All I have now, all I dreamed of
A noisy family filled with love.
Would I trade them? Never could,
Because I know what's really good;
A loving man to stand beside,
Little children to confide
All their wishes, hopes and schemes
And the world's most well-worn dreams.
Station wagon or flashy car,
The first one brings more joy by far,
No, satins and laces can never compare
With these other things I hold so rare.

Seven is a lucky number. God bless your sister. She's been blessed with what sounds like a terrific family. Phew! I thought having twins was work enough!
What a wonderful compliment, Rachel, I am truly honoured. Thank you, Norman Rockwell is a long time favourite of mine, no one could have done better than he did!
Beautifully expressed, Boog. Myself, I have the man I love by my side, no kids, but horses galore, and so, in my own way, I have my dream, too! Love ya, Buns
