The Billboard

  The Billboard

Plastered on a billboard,
Was the message “Jesus Saves”,
It sat beside a country road,
That was, as yet, unpaved.

I’d travelled down that road before,
And never gave it heed,
I thought I’d get to Heaven,
On the basis of my deeds.

It was late at night and raining hard,
When I came around the curve,
A car was stalled in front of me,
And so I tried to swerve.

I was heading for that billboard,
There was nothing I could do,
I crashed my car right into it,
It slowed me, that I knew.

I climbed out of the crumpled car,
And was feeling rather stiff,
Then realized God had rescued me,
As I stood beside the cliff.

The billboard saved my life that day,
But Jesus saved my soul,
I offered up my life to Him,
And He has made me whole.

We have faith, yet we are uncertain of the worthiness of our souls. Jesus died on the cross so that we could gain access to heaven even though we are imperfect. Sometimes it takes a strange happening to help us to know that God is in control. Good poem and thanks, Anthony
