I know this stone
and its flaunting angles
present a familiarity I find sedating.
In presentation of its silhouette
against an indifferent sky,
I find picturesque stillness
and a sudden sense of ease.
How mighty the skies torch
beats itself upon it’s surface
then seemingly retreats.
Or is absorbed, to never be reflected elsewhere.
How I respect this stone
for its dull contoured surface.
This stone is but half shown
as its stability, its fortification
lies hidden beneath its environment.
The earth, gravel and variety
of vegetation surrounds it,
yet buries it as well.
A puddle here, a crevice there
is evidence of time spent
and this stone is large
yet still only a particle.
I hope to have time to wonder
someday
what the pebble beside it
must think...
