Letting You Go

My darling daughter…….it is hard to let you go.
I still see a little girl playing alone in the backyard on a warm summer day.
At the time, you have no idea that Mom and I are watching you.
Music is playing on your tape player and in your hand is a long ribbon
on a coloured stick, that Mom and I gave to you the day before.
As the music plays, you dance and twirl the ribbon about your head,
completely unaware of anything else except the music.
Life is simple and fun, and it seems like you will be a child forever.
But time has moved on and the music has changed, but the dance continues.
You are married now and a whole new dance is set to begin.

This is a good poem! I like you how you structure the events and story of the poem around the comparison of music changing, and new dances beginning. I didn't know what to expect from this, I can kinda guess what I'm getting into when I read a love poem written by a female, but for obvious reasons I've got no idea what to expect from male authors for the most part. I didn't find any errors here, spelling or grammar ones. One nice thing about reading works from adult authors: I'm not chattering about spelling/grammar for most of the comment... Though this poem is small, you've delivered your feeling and I can see where your coming from even though I've never meed in a situation close to this one. For, I'm still a minor! I'm sure this is how all father feel, I'm not even a teenage and he's all drama when he mentions me moving out or any of the like... Though the idea of marriage sickens me in the fact that it takes away so much freedom you've just received, if you marry young that is. It's like willfully chaining your wings down again, after only flying for one day. Thanks for entering my contest, chances are I'll be judging it today. Good work, keep writing!
Amazing how everyone writes about this differently, yet it means the same thing. you use the dance to describe. i don't have children yet, but, this is very nicely written.
