To watch from afar

She sits in her room
brushing her hair in the mirror
The reflection of sadness staring back
though it should'nt be
She's now pulling the 'girlish' sewing box
from her dresser draw
and sews her heart with coloured thread
trying to mend the broken pieces
she's holding in her hands
Carrying brown leather suitcases beneath her eyes
the colour of the ocean so blue-green
now dark and misty
...cloud stricken
I watch from the window of my calm world
an outsider looking in
wanting to reach out
and take her in a childhood sisterly embrace
Though I find comfort in knowing
she has a soul as strong as steel
U am saddened by the fact her heart is as soft as velvet
She notices me through the window and smiles
through her spilling emotion
for a moment I see a glimpse of the little girl
and now the beautiful young woman
she is beginning to be
I want to give her a shield to protect her from her troubles
yet I know she is living through just one of life's lessons
and to experience it is something
that just needs to be
I leave my eyes open
sometimes even in their tiredness
and just cross my fingers
and/or talk to God
that her lessons are'nt too harsh,
that her beauty isn't stolen
her smile is never tarnished
and her heart always knows where home is.

A very haunting poem. Keeps me connected from top to bottom with the voice of your poem.
It's somewhat mysterious in that, I'm not sure whether the voice is you looking at the little girl inside you, or you, looking at your daughter!?
Anyway another excellent write.
