Many people catagorize "Sailor Moon" as a children's TV show, just because of the fact that it is a cartoon with young girls wearing silly colorful outfits. But there is plenty more meaning to this television program than just that, my friend. Plenty more.
"Sailor Moon" is basically about Usagi Tsukino (or, in the english version, Serena Tsukino) and her friends, Minako (Mina), Ami (Amy), Rei (Raye), and Makoto (Lita) as they fight crime as the Sailor Senshi. Every episode featured a new monster to fight. There were inner senshi (Venus, Mercury, Mars Jupiter, and the leader, Moon) and outer senshi (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Saturn) and Tuxedo Mask, and also Sailor Chibi-Moon, Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon's future daughter. Each scout had their own special power. There were a total of 5 seasons, and there is a live-action series, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. As I said earlier, this is the basic summary. Some do not go into "Sailor Moon"'s depths...into what the true meaning of the show is.
The character of Sailor Moon is proven to be a crybaby and a whiner, but when it comes to sticking up for her friends, she will do anything and everything to protect them. Each scout had her own weakness...For instance, Sailors Uranus and Neptune could not accept the change in their paths to their destiny until they realized what being a Sailor Scout was truly about---protecting the princess and Crystal Tokyo. The TV show itself shows the meaning of true friendship, determination, and understanding. The villains on the show usually were not really true villains...just beings trying to find their way back on the path of good after being led away from it. For example, Neherania in the Sailor Moon SuperS series was lonely and found a friend in her mirror, which caused her to change her personality and begin to hate all people. In the end, all she needed was people to understand her, and that was exactly what Sailo Moon and the senshi did for her.
"Sailor Moon" reached depths that many other anime shows could never reach...that is why it is not just for wee little children...any adult or teenager could relate to some of the problems that were faced during the show's run. Even though the Salior Scouts each had their own unique strenghths and attacks, there was something more powerful than all of them put together...Love.
