Lady Liberty
by Maralee Gerke
copyright 09-14-2001

Age Rating: 18 to 127

Lady liberty still stands in the harbor.
Her torch held against the sky.
Her placid face and glowing crown,
Cannot stop the pleading cries.
Of families torn asunder,
And buildings continuing to burn.
She looks straight ahead and stands her ground,
And bolsters our faltering souls.
We gather beneath her sturdy feet,
To pray that peace will return.
We know as long as she prevails,
Our country will never turn.
She is our guide and leader,
For liberty is our core.
The people of America-
Will never shut her door.
So let liberty stand on high,
And lead us to the day.
When all our sorrow eases.
And in freedom we can stay.

I read many an email about this same thing... how hard it would have been if she had a heart to be forced to stand there and watch. *sigh* But stand there she did... and she's still standing! :)

Maralee, David and Robert have taken the words right out of my mouth on this one. I agree totaly with both of their comments.
