Sailors.

Beneath the oceans restless skin
deep below the waves.
Lie the rotting hulks of many ships,
sailors lonely graves.

Fighting storms and tempests,
to bring goods to our shores,
a mighty wave, the ships back broke,
they are seen no more.

Buried neath the waving fronds
of giant beds of kelp.
They went down on foundering ships,
far beyond our help.

In times of peace, and in times of war
these unsung hero's sailed.
They were the lifelines to our shores,
but sometimes alas, they failed.

Just ordinary merchant seamen,
paid to do their work.
Knowing the risks they had to run
they never thought to shirk.

Under the sea the "U Boats" stalked,
hunting like the shark,
killing with torpedoes,
silent in the dark.

To all of us that stay ashore
and sleep in a safe warm bed.
We have a lot of thanks to give,
when the sea gives up her dead.

I read your poem with misty eyes
Wondering how you could possibly know
But then I began to realize
Only I could see the pain below

(I think you've inspired a poem here!)

We owe gratitude to many in our lives that get us what we need. We don't realize the sacrifices that some have to make! Good write, Anthony

I like this a lot. It rhymes and flows well, and tells a great story (my favourite type of poems is one that tells a story)
Good write,

David Pekrul

Nice poem about people we probably all forget are there in our lives, though, I would use commas where you often used periods; I think it would flow better.

Jim
