Keychains

Children love keychains.

Not using them for keys,
they dangle them
from napsacks and bags.

My son has five.
One dangles loudly
from a denim belt-loop--

a bright green earth--
the tiny round globe
bouncing against his thigh.

He shows all his friends
before his mother yanks it,
his tiny hands left empty,

barren and dry.

awwww....she should let him keep it! I used to love keychains when I was younger. I would keep them all over my backpack, and this is very very true. Such an odd phenomenon, I think. A childs obsession with keychains.

Keys make a child feel like a grown-up. This is cute.
There are a number of typos, though. Correcting them would make the piece read better.
