His name was Geordie Cromarty
A hero of the sea
A Lifeboatman on the Holy Isle
A bewhiskered man was he
He smoked a clay pipe
Wore a cap and lived a simple life
Nine men he saved once from a wreck
Climbed nine times up a rope
In roaring waters up he went
And brought nine live men back
The rocks of Farne are very sharp
Many ships have come to grief
The story of Grace Darling is the one we always hear
But Geordie Cromarty was an inspiration
Decorated by the King for bravery
Old man of the sea
He was my great great Grandfather
A hero great to me.

I love the rhyme and rhythm here. It is so alive with style, I found myself humming a jig as I read it and read it again. You brought the gentleman to life.
