The Big Picture
by David Pekrul
copyright 05-06-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Just what is this 'Big Picture', that
Some people talk about?
A term oft' used by management
When trying to use some clout.

They say that we don't understand
The thinking of the day,
That we're just here to do our jobs,
To work and get our pay.

They think they have enlightenment,
And always know what's best,
"Let's look at the 'Big Picture'", as
They treat us all with jest.

But sometimes 'The Big Picture', is
A very big excuse,
For seeing problems from afar,
And letting thoughts run loose.

Like looking at the earth from space,
"It looks okay down there,"
It's only as you look up close,
You see just how it fares.

It's time the 'Big Boys' looked up close,
To see how it is done,
And bowed their heads to shield their eyes
From the glaring of their sun.

If they (those individuals) were honestly looking at the bigger picture...wouldn't they be more considerate about what they voiced and who was watching them as they spoke? That is the thinking that came to my mind, while reading this. Thanks...for the view.

I like the sarcastic as well as humble tone of the poem. It does seem annoying, those of us who have the audacity to try to show someone else "the big picture," when they themselves really don't see it. I suppose we should simply speak for ourselves.

Upper management? The big picture? I think they are only in it for their bonus.I don't care how, just make a profit! This was a humorous look at our "superiors"(in their mind). Anthony

Very well put. So often when those above talk about the 'big picture' it's because they have not got a clue about how things work. Another case of to many chiefs.
I once ran a workshop for a local council repairing horticultural machinery. In one of those strange management decisions I aquired a new boss. He was a heating engineer!
You can guess the rest.
Brian.
