Autumn
by Brian Dickenson (Age: 73)
copyright 05-06-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

The nights draw in,
The days are cool.
Kids have all gone
Back to school.

Mothers relax
And put up their feet.
Teachers chalk blackboards.
Old friends meet.

Autumn:
A time for nature resting.
Winter coming,
A time of testing.

As Geese fly south
To warmer climes
Through the morning mist
A church bell chimes.

Squirrels
Work harder,
To fill their
Larder.

Winter is coming:

What a vision... You have painted a perfect picture with words how Fall is to a lot of people. So many memories and images came flooding back to me when I read this. It makes me smile in it simplicity and beauty. I loved it Brian!

Mmmmmm... this makes me want to curl up in front of the fire. With a steaming mug of hot cocoa, mini marshmallows floating on the top, and a small down blanket to keep my legs warm. The only other thing I would need is my kitties by my side! I like this one!

Ah yes! The morning mists.. and old friends meeting.. finally cool enough to be hanging out at the fence-line with the neighbors.
Lovely thoughts.. Timing is perfect!

Autumn scene portraits painted most vividly.

Portraits of John Constable using words of good rhyme and rhythm.

Leaves good images in my mind.

Thanks,

Rich

Hi Debra, climes is an old English word meaning region, country or climate.

To warmer climes
^ is climes a word? Sorry...v.v;;; lol

Once I figure that out, I'll give you praise! Don't wanna shirk you for my own ignorance ^.^

This is a great work. Reminds me of a less severe ee cummings in an odd sort of way. You always had a talent with imagery and a strange sort of rythm that always worked together.

Great work

I like Autumn. The trees are so beautiful with all the colors. The cold comming only means you must put another log on the fire and its time to cuddle with your loved one! Thanks, Anthony

Although I think this is a great poem, I've got to tell you, I really don't like the autumn time of year. It means winter is on the way and winter is cccccold. Remember, I live in Canada, and it doesn't get much colder than that.
Love your work,
David Pekrul
