One Small Voice
by David Pekrul
copyright 05-07-2005

Age Rating: 7 to 127

Just one small voice amongst the crowd,
I try to speak up loudly,
To say there is a better way,
And state my case so proudly.

But folks are running here and there,
And no one's even stopping,
To hear the words I have to say,
For they're too busy shopping.

I say, "Hey people, slow it down,
What is your big, big hurry?
While you're out for material gain,
Your world is getting blurry".

Our lives are much too valuable,
To throw it all away,
By storing up all sorts of things,
That rot away some day.

Let's think of friends, and God and peace.
It's these that are important.
And if we do, then we will know,
Our lives will have endorsement.

I meant to say....that this is true all the time but it is especially hard to take at Christmas...somehow, I managed to delete the entire first sentence when I submitted the last comment!...sorry

It's sad to think that for many, this is just a holiday without signicance except to retailers. It is just a long 'to do' list and "for Heaven's Sake, don't forget to get Aunt Milly a gift this year". And then, when all bases are covered and if they are not too tired, they'll try to make it to a Christmas eve church service. And every year they promise themselves "never again, because this is not what Christmas should be about", but sadly, they get caught up in the frenzy time after time. Your poem says it all....and this year is going to be different at my house, I swear!

There are so many lessons to be learned in life. Its too bad that when you finally get a grasp on what is really important, the years are beginning to be numbered! The things that were told to me by my grandfather are becomming true. I had thought he was silly and yet today If I had done what he told me ......hindsight what a concept! Anthony
