The Ten Second Stash

  The Ten Second Stash

Your pulse begins to excel,
as you see the police light.
The ten second stash,
in your moment of plight.

Where to hide the liquor,
how to catch your cool.
Make sure not to say something,
that might make you a fool.

"Yes sir, may I help you?"
He says, "please step from the car."
The thought runs through your mind,
this time I've gone to far!

Just what should you do,
in a situation like this.
You search for what to say,
anything that could exist.

Did you run the stop sign?
Were you driving a little fast?
Just how much did you excel
around that car you passed.

You wonder did he catch you,
or will you get away.
Your life could well depend,
on the things that you say.

All these things are running
around in your mind so fast.
The brief moment you anticipate,
The Ten Second Stash!

when I was young I have to admit that I had driven while drinking and this did happen! It was almost as innocent as it sounds cause I think we each had two beers and that was cool then or so we thought. The stop scared the hell out of us and I don't think we drank again for quite a while! thanks, Anthony

Firstly good write it holds alot of anticipation in its lines. As David said I too hope this isnt a true life experience.!!!!!

Oh, gosh, just what is she stashing! I like the way you capture the sudden rush of adrenaline one must feel in that situation; the rhyme and rhythm work well in this regard. I do agree, though, that being stopped for something other than a minor traffic violation is potentially deadly business for more than just one person.

I sure hope this is just a story and not your true life experience. It doesn't pay to drink and drive (read my poem 'Driving Drunk') I don't know about you, but I have absolutely no sympathy for a person who is drunk behind the wheel.

By the way, good write.
