Don't Back Up

by David Pekrul
copyright 05-16-2005

Age Rating: 10 +

Drive real hard and don’t back up,
Hit life head on and never duck,
Be on the edge, not in a rut,
Just don’t – back – up.

Trouble comes and sets up shop,
You get depressed and want to stop,
You’re out of steam and want to drop,
You need – a – prop.

It’s okay to ask for help,
Don’t fight the world all by yourself,
Just put your pride back on the shelf,
And ask – for – help.

Life is good and you have won,
You’re back on top and beat your drum,
Now look for others on the run,
And help – someone.

Bravo! When I came to read this, I originally thought it was going to be just another motivational poem...don't get me wrong, a very WONDERUL one, but just another "Don't look back, you can make it, ask for help, and it'll be okay."

The last verse though totally floored me. That's something I've always believed in--help when you can. Without people to help you, you never would have made it...so return the favor and help others.

Great rythm, and even greater message!

I love the rhythm in this poem. Life is waht you make, but you can't get anywhere without taking risks and chances that usually end up in places never thought of (so I have finally found out). Good job!

Most won't remember Drive in movies. This made me think about the exits of those drive in's, the sharp metal things that kept people from comming in the exits. The sign's read," DON'T BACK UP! "
I never thought it was a reference to life, but I guess it was! Good write, Anthony
