In memory of Jean

by Brian Dickenson (Age: 78)

Written after watching a repeat of a TV show, 'Butterflies'.
It was a sit-com.
We were going through a divorce at the time.
A show my second wife and I used to enjoy.
She is dead now. This is in memory of her.
Only her and I would know what I'm saying.
You can put your own slant to it.

I remember, I remember, washing machines, like Quatermass.
I remember, I remember, Yorkshire pudding, near breaking glass.
I remember, I remember, salad laid on warm white skin.
I remember, I remember, marble clock, thrown in the bin.
I remember, I remember, turkey stuffing Christmas eve.
I remember, oh how I remember, when first we practised to deceive
What a crazy game we started; and because of it we parted.
But I remember, I remember, far more times that were good; not bad.
I remember, I remember, watching 'Butterflies'.
So sad.

I don't know how I missed this one, Brian.
You're right, I don't understand what is being said, but I do understand the emotion. It has now been one year since you wrote this. I hope the good memories are still there; hang on to those, as memories are very much a part of who we are.

Interesting scheme. With the repeated word, "remember," I can picture one trying so hard to re-experience the imagery and incidents you depict and the frustration that human memory really cannot recover them adequately.

It's obvious that you lost love. A great poem dripping with emotion. I'm sorry that you lost her. :)

I am sorry for the loss. It sounds like you loved her and I am sure that she felt the same! Anthony
