The whole fiasco about former police chief John Cooper was all over the news. Almost everyone in the city was glued to their sets as they had learned the information about the man who had once protected and served the innocent.
One person, however, was watching the news, had more than one reason to be angry. It wasn't just about his madness, but the fact that he had failed to do the task which he had promised to do for her.
Thanks to his incompetence, John Cooper was going to pay; he was going to pay dearly.

Lucien stepped into the hospital and saw Jane walking towards him with a cup of coffee in her hand.
"How is she?" Lucien asked anxiously.
"The same as she was when I left her. But she's still asleep. Maybe that's a good thing."
"She wasn't alone when you stepped out, was she?"
"No--a nurse had come in to check up on her."
"Good--good. I don't feel comfortable with the idea of her being left in there alone."
"I thought you had to be invited."
"Nothing more than an old wives' tale."
Jane arched her eyebrow. "So much for that idea. What about--?" Jane lowered her voice. "What about the rest? I mean, the stakes, sunlight, crucifixes . . ."
"The stakes will work at the same time we're decapitated. The sun will burn us. Only some of us can withstand the crucifix--myself included."
Jane frowned. "That's weird. How can that be?"
Lucien was about to explain to the answer to her question until a nurse walked up to Jane, smiling. "Hello, Officer. We managed to give Kaitlin her blood transfusion. We were so lucky to have found her type, too."
"Oh, well, good," Lucien said. "Thank you."
The nurse stared up at Lucien.
"It's okay--he's the gentlemen who brought her here," Jane said quickly.
"Oh, well, then it's best he knows about it, too." The nurse turned to Lucien. "She appears to be getting some of her strength back; she's getting some colour back into her cheeks."
A scowl then came across Lucien's features. "She's not alone, is she?"
"Well, of course she is. She needs her rest."
Lucien turned to Jane, and he could tell from her expression that she was thinking the same thing. The two of them quickly turned and ran into Kaitlin's room. After they had done so, the door slammed closed behind them, but they were so horrified by what they saw, they didn't even notice.
The nurse was wrong; Kaitlin wasn't alone. When Lucien recognized the face of the woman who accompanied Kaitlin.
"Ahhh, Lucien," Mariam sighed, her eyes red. "It is such a wonder you desire her--she is so pure indeed." Blood was trickling down from the corner of her mouth as she smiled.
"NOOOOO!" Lucien shouted before he chased after Mariam who laughed wickedly.
Before he had a chance to grab her, however, Mariam escaped by jumping out the window.
Jane broke down the door which had jammed tightly. "Hey!" she screamed furiously. "A little help here!"
Lucien tended to Kaitlin, who was bleeding profusely from the tiny wounds on her neck. "Kaitlin," he shouted, panic seizing him. "Kaitlin, wake up!"
The doctors shoved him out of the way to attempt to save her life.
