Just One Puff

Why does she walk around
afraid that every sound
will be her parents footsteps?
experimenting?
I refuse
i try and help my friends
but they are so confused
experimenting with weed they say
yo girl I'm all dat.
and yet their mind is spinning all around
they dont know whats up
and whats down
and yet all they do
is take another puff a dat weed.
Though I refuse to be another one a them
on the corner
no.
Ill be learning what I need to succeed
to make my dreams a reality
and to be who I want to be
and letting my hopes get down
i dont think so
cause I will never, never, never
take a puff a dat weed.

If you were wondering A Corner as refereed to above is where people at my school go to smoke aka smokers corner. Oh and this is a slam poem so its meant to be read as kinda like a rap more then a poem.

Great job! Not giving in to perr pressure can be tough, but just keep trying and somewhere down the line you'll succeed! I loved the rythym of the poem it was really good.

the reason i wrote it in the first place was because teachers and counslers at my school thought that because the people i hang around with do it that i do to. so now whenever i get called into a various office i just read um the poem and walk out. cause im sick of it. im not going to make the same choices my friends do. so i wrote this so they would realize that.
