I Lost My Mind In Vegas
by David Pekrul
copyright 06-02-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

My heart is a-pounding,
I’m all in a sweat,
I’ve travelled to Vegas
In order to bet.

I’m playing the big boys,
Just hoping to win,
But so far my chances
Are looking quite slim.

I started with nickels
And moved on to quarters,
My wife was beside me,
A real big supporter.

I won just a little,
And then won a lot,
Then greed got a hold
And I went for the pot.

With Blackjack and Poker,
And Keno; can’t stop,
From slots to the big-time,
In one giant hop.

My wife says she's tired,
And she’s had enough,
She said she will leave me,
I think it’s a bluff.

I play and I gamble,
There’s no end in sight,
I’m blinded by greed,
Not aware of my plight.

I’m stuck here in Vegas,
It’s one-of-a-kind,
For though I am losing,
I think I’m doing fine.

The Club is now building
A place with more space,
I’ll lose all my cash
In a fancier place.

And I’ll keep on playing,
I'm in a real bind,
I’m living in Vegas,
Going out of my mind.

Great write David, I have seen exactly this, although not in Las Vegas.
I used to play cards for a living years ago. The Casino's were full of people like your addict.
My games where poker and brag. However I was never a compulsive gambler, most pros aren't. You just play the percentages, games of pure chance never appealed.
Thanks, Brian

This poem was as fast-paced as the life in Vegas seems to be. It made me nervous just reading it as you made it seem larger than life and twice as real. I am not a gambler and can't even imagine betting large sums ($1.00 )on games of chance...Interesting read...

You know the Golden rule of gambling?...If you leave ahead...you have to come back and loose with interest!! Great write, Anthony

Try living here.

To watch the tourists come, and many of them move here when the draw of the slot machines call. And knowing that just five minutes from the strip are the places where the drug labs are...

This city is a facade in itself. I hate it here, lol. I know the worst of the worst. I used to be part of it lol.

This is a very real poem, sadly enough. Wonderful job in your display of it.

It's true that I was in Las Vegas recently, but I am not the guy in this poem (this was written from my observations of people around me). Actually I left Vegas with a $40.00 profit (I don't think they'll miss it!)
