I may be looking into this too much, but I like the word 'curtain', and assume it was chosen carefully, as every word in a haiku is necessarily loaded. For me, I see the curtain of rain as an ending to the day's drama, the earth renewed in the sense of a new drama or story beginning the next day, in addition to renewal by water.

In such a short poem, the mystery and dynamics of our Earth is enclosed. I could smell the Earth, as I read this little precious gem!
