Mommy is a Junkie
by Delaney Lindley (Age: 19)
copyright 06-07-2005

Age Rating: 13 to 127

Mommy is a junkie
A needle is her friend
The tourniquet to cut the feeling off
Guides her to the end
She knows the risk
I am just 5
Mommy sold our house
To keep her habit alive
Daddy shot himself
With a shotgun when we left him alone
I hear her crying in pain-she misses him so
Mommy doesn't sleep often when she does it's comatose
I think it's daddy she misses most...

We are closest when she passes out
My mommy breathes drugs
The only time she says she loves me
Is only when she's drunk
She wouldn't if she could see me
Maybe she'd wanna leave me

Daddy said the world would be better
Without him in it
What's the world supposed to be like
Without her in it?
I've been crying such a long time
Wanting you to be clean
But when you sober up
Is when you aren't able to be seen

My mommy is a junkie
All she likes are drugs
The only time she really loves me
Is whenever she is drunk

But still I help her to her chair
She tells me how dark everything is
The world is what hurts us most
And tells us how to live
And soon she's gone
I pray to whoever listens
The pill bottles
And liquid vials began to glisten
And I came to truth
Mommy is a junkie who only did me harm
Cause everytime she put a needle in
There was a needle in my arm

adding to the well-deserved adulation for this poem... I like it very much, on a sad level.

still... hate to ruin the moment :) but...
4th stanza, line 2 - "is" should be "are"
last stanza, line 9 - there is a colon stuck in "truth"

other than that... impressive work.

Wow! this is a tragic story. I can't imagine what this would be like, yet many are living these words. You have done a great job at capturing the emotion; very gripping.

The sad thing is that this is true. Not at your house, thankfully, but at many others. Drugs take so much away and the "High" is really a low! Thanks, Anthony

no, this is the result of seeing too many Courtney Love pics and then reading about a woman who died in her kid's arms of a heroin overdose. So... Thank god no.

This hit so close to home...I have seen this, first hand, so many times it's not even funny...

...is this true?
