Retirement

by David Pekrul
copyright 06-10-2005

Age Rating: 10 +

I've worked at my job for so many years,
And now I just want to get out,
Retirement is such a sweet word to the ears,
I want it so bad I could shout.

It's not that I don't like the work I do,
Or the people I work with each day,
It's just that there's so many things to do,
There’s really no reason to stay.

There's travelling and hobbies and afternoon naps,
There's wine-making and so much more,
If I could just live a hundred years,
I know there'd be much more in store.

But I'll have to wait a bit longer,
My time to retire isn't yet,
A few more months and I will be done,
I'll take home my cheque and be set.

In the meantime, I will keep working,
Just doing the best I can,
Serving the public day after day,
Remembering how it began.

For there is a light in the distance,
And it's getting much brighter each day,
So I will look forward to when I can leave,
And soon I will be on my way.

The magic day is October, 17, 2005

It can't get here soon enough. Then it will be here and you will be sleeping in and wearing dark socks and shorts! The good days are only just around the corner...by the way the poem is a funny one and was fun to read! Anthony (sence, sence, sence) Don't let that bother you...overlook it! LOL
