Thanks For the Memories
by Delaney Lindley (Age: 19)
copyright 06-16-2005

Age Rating: 13 to 127

As the curtain draws
To a final close
I realize now
This is finally it
Last call, The End
Everything's finally finished
And what a great act it has been;
No one saw the mistakes
The perfection of the distilled acts
And the rain that never fell
All that was perfect in this fairy-tale...
Thanks for the memories.

As the book closes,
Last page is read
I realize now
There was no epilogue
To this grand adventure
No going into the sunset
No living proof of merriment
Unditurbed, these pages shall turn to dust
And be rewritten
But never forgotten...
Thanks for the memories.

As the movie ends,
The credits roll
I realize now
Was there ever a doubt?
The bad guys would actually win
In the end
The moment would be claimed by the dark
And kept for eternity
In the shadows of the veiled silence
On sanctified ground-
Now is the moment of Regret...
Thanks for the memories.

And so you turn to walk away,
Never one to linger
You'd rather keep your light
Admit I was beyond your aide
And there was nothing you could do
Try as you may
The lies would never leave
And kept getting higher
Till finally I drowned and all I felt was your hand
As though I waited a lifetime for this treasure
And at last it was mine
And though I died in the twilight
You knew there was no way to save me,
But you were the last thing in my eyesight...

Thanks for the memories.

Wow...I'm actually at a loss of words. I guess because I can kind of relate to it because of current events in my life. This is very well written and the use of vocabulary in some parts really added to it!

Very strong write! Keep it up!

The last verse seems to ramble on a little, but the rest of it is astonishing.

There is one thing that I think was the most interesting but rewarding lesson to learn--
the memories of those who tried to help you, are the ones which keep you fighting the hardest. Only you're able to save yourself, and Delaney...your strong enough to :)

You're such an amazing poet
