Political leaders just want to debate,
While those in the war deal with fighting and hate,
With Generals advising their men at the top,
But no one can tell how to make it all stop.
To them it’s a ‘war-game’, just charts on the wall,
While soldiers in battle are giving their all,
And people are slaughtered unless they will yield,
The mortally wounded will never be healed.
So where is the glamour and where is the fame?,
They all point their fingers and no one takes blame,
When lusting for power is all that they care,
Our world is in trouble; It just isn’t fair,
That some live in turmoil and some live in peace,
The greed of the nations is feeding the beast,
With government leaders in charge of this mess,
Protecting their lives while they live in excess.
Oh, what have we done to this world that God made?,
Like small spoiled children, we just can’t behave,
Now, if we don't soon learn to do what is right,
We’ll drown in our lust and continue to fight.

As I said, I have gone back to all of your poems and re-red them. I have really analyzed them more closely to discover just what bothered me. There is nothing wrong with this poem. It has an excellent theme, it flows well, it rhymes well. What you have done is taken a very serious subject matter, and, by using the anapest and dactyl, given it a frivolous mood. The theme would have given a serious mood with the combination of the iamb and trochee. As an exercise, but not a submission, you might try reworking this poem in the these two metres, and see if it does really change the tone of the poem.
The war on terrorism was suppose to be a noble war for the good of all....but as usual, it has been turned into a political power struggle and a battle for the controlling election vote. It has also turned into a monetary feeding frenzy for any corporation with the 'right' connections...You have stated a powerful truth, but will any one in the high places ever heed it?
This poem is so true of our world, not just as it is, but how it has always been. Only the scale has changed. We now have far more efficient ways of slaughtering each other.
The thing that distresses me is that now and then we get a flag waving gung ho 'patriot' here.
I do wonder if they have seen war, for real I mean, not the Hollywood variety.
If they had, they would not shout about it having glory.
Keep them coming, Brian.
I think that someday we will actually blow it all up! Na we probably can't get that right either. This is a very good poem that flows well. I like it! Anthony
