The Perfect Place
by Jean George
copyright 06-21-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

I’ve cleaned and dusted my perfect place,
Made it all sparkle and shine.
All the germs that hide just disappear
When Lysol and soap combine
To make sure all items are sanitized
As they stand in a perfect line.

To eliminate all the allergens
Ionizers work to clean the air.
I vacuum only with my new Kirby,
And each time I say a prayer
That I get the deep-down hidden dirt
That I am told is lurking there.

No sprays, perfumes or smoking allowed,
My house is chemical-free.
The food is all organically grown
And I only drink green tea,
Except for the small glass of dark red wine
They recommended daily.

The TV set sits facing the wall,
The radio’s never turned on.
Unread newspapers are put in bins
And all the telephones are gone
From all the sins of the world at large
I hide inside to stay withdrawn.

I’m wrapped up inside my perfect place,
Every protection I procure.
To make sure my environment’s safe
Each precaution I ensure.
Then why with all I’ve gone and done
Don’t I ever feel secure?

No, this is not autobiographical but if you believe all the commercial claims the media bombards you with, telling you that unless you use their cleaning products you are putting yourself, and worse, your family at dire risk of being attacked by all the 'hidden' dirt and bacteria that lurks everywhere. If anyone has seen the newest 'gross out' "clorox" commercial you know how far they are now going with the 'hidden dirt' ploy. A man holds up a large plastic bag supposedly filled with repulsive looking liquid body soil and then tells you that this is what you are living/sleeping in unless you do all your laundry with "Clorox" products. It is easy to understand how a simple desire for cleanliness can become obsession and paranoia...The real kicker is, you are then told by all the news agencies whose outlets broadcast these commercials how really bad and dangerous for you and the environment all of these products are over time...A real case of "damned if you do and damned if you don't"!

On Spanish television, a man comes out and tells the viewers that so many people die each year, due to all the germs found on tap water. (USA). I said to myself, 'gee, we've got the best water in the world!' Of course, the man was selling water filters, for the amount of $99.00 each. What bothers me the most is that people believe these things. I like this poem, for it makes us realize that no matter what we do, we will always live among germs and microbes.

This made me smile. Shades of Howard Hughes.
For around a million years we never heard of these products, mainly because they had not been invented.
How on earth did the human race survive.

As my own house keeper I am nothing to boast about, I do the washing, cleaning and ironing. But I'm not fanatical about it.
Maybe I should be dead from all the diseases they warn us about.

My wife loves you. LOL. How can we keep our immune system if we dont come across any germs for it to adapt to. Thank you.
