Ranting

I realise that this will be considered by some to be very much none P.C. It is intended to be.
I am disgusted to see on a daily basis, about some unfortunates, lots of them pensioners, some as old as ninety plus years, being beaten and robbed, at times for just the change in their pockets and purses.

Our government tells us that crime is decreasing. Maybe it is in the wealthier parts of this country, where the police patrol regularly.
For the rest of us in the real world, it’s a different story. People scared to go out after dark. Or walk through a park in daylight.

They have put a stop to ordinary people owning guns, which leaves just the criminals armed. Our gun crime is on the increase.
The latest craze among some young people is to beat someone while filming it on their mobile phones. This morning, one news item is that three fourteen year old boys raped an eleven year old girl, filming the rape and sending it by mobile to their friends.
All this in the UK. One of the ‘civilised’ countries.

Muggers aren't brave, the skulk in the night,
They steal rob and maim;
Then they cower in fright.

Lurking in alleys, waiting to snatch
Handbags from women
Who’ve slaved for their cash.

Laughing at victims as they brag in the bar.
Then hiding in fear
When they see a police car.

Goal's not the answer; the answer's in kind.
Flog them; maim them; their eyes;
Make them blind.

You sound angry, Brian, and so you should be. These guys are all cowards; so tough when the victim is a woman or someone weaker than themselves, but how they howl and whine when the police put them in handcuffs and haul them away.
They deserve whatever they get, but unfortunately in our society, the criminals have all the rights and the victims have none.
Now look what you've done! Sometimes you have me preaching, now you have me ranting. lol
Great write, Brian. You have a good heart.

Thank you both for your comments, they are much appreciated.
I wish that I had the answers. I do think that yobbish behaviour is on the increase, due in part to taking away most forms of punishment.
As Anthony says, punishment should be just that. Not someone explaining about the human rights of the criminal. To me they forfeit those rights when they commit the crime.
In the UK we have a thing called 'The Open University'. It's distance learning, and supposedly very good.
I can not comment because I have never taken any of their courses, mostly due to cost, they are not cheap.
However, if I were to go to prison, I could take any or all of the courses for free.
It makes a mockery of justice and punishment.
Brian.

I don't know what to tell you, Brian. This kind of antisocial violence has always been with us, especially among the young and it is always the poor and unprotected that receive the worst of it usually with little notice or protest from the general public. This is not a rant, it is a justified and needed social outcry.

This is true in every country. We have a civil liberties union that says you can't be cruel. They don't take into consideration that the world and life are cruel. So the criminals are being treated better than the poor! Prison and punishment need to be just that punishment. If we don't make the penalty strong enough, then why not do the crime. We should not reward wrong doing, but we do!
