"I've got to get supper," Sherry said softly as her sobs ended. "Go and talk with the children."
Sam pondered what to say. They had agreed to educate the kids about sex someday but expected that to be in a couple of years. Outside the window, Timmy was pushing Jill on the swing.
"Higher," screamed Jill. "Higher!"
"But it won't go any higher," giggled Tim, obviously enjoying his sister's exuberance.
Sam smiled, knowing the game. Jill the show-off and Tim carefully protecting his sister from harm. Impossible to believe that they were not blood brother and sister. Tim had Sam's dark hair and Jill's was blonde like her Mom, Sherry.
"Call us when you're ready... or if you need me."
Sherry smiled, "I'll be ok, now git."

"So Tim, You been taking care of your Mom and your sister while I was away?" dad asked, squeezing himself into the empty swing.
"'Course Dad. I always do."
"Good man." Sam smiled, nodding approvingly. Tim quit pushing and let Jill coast to a stop. She giggled, swinging her feet wildly, trying to get higher, while the swing slowed down.
"Tim, do you think anyone around the neighborhood is mad at me, or us?"
Tim scrunched his left eye shut and tipped his head to think. "I don't think anyone is mad but Billy told me his Mom and Dad think you're a drug dealer."
Sam blinked. "A drug dealer? Why on earth would they think that?"
"'Cause you don't work like other people. You come and go different."
"But that's how salesmen sometimes work. I sell specialized things for hospitals and have to travel all over to visit many different ones."
"I know that but Billy's Mom and Dad still think you're a drug dealer."
Sherry walked toward them, her face ashen. "Sam, they're here. They..." and she started to cry.
