How Swiftly Does Liberty Die?
by Debra Rose (Age: 21)
copyright 11-10-2005

Age Rating: 7 to 127

View into the ephemeral bliss
projected onto the skies from our dreams.
Do you see the mocking crows
ripping holes with their eyes?

I'm standing in the maddening crowd
bleeding open, still unseen.
I'm wondering if anyone else can tell,
how swiftly does our liberty die?

My response to the Bush administration, his actions against gay marriage, the reinforcement of the Patriot Act, and the blind eye of apathy the nation turns to the injustice

To me, America is the most wonderful and most progressive country in the world. I'm glad to be a Dominican American, but having said that, within our own borders, there exist an inequality that boggles the mind. Gay men, lesbian women, African Americans, Mexicans, Hispanics in general and some other minority groups that I can not define at the moment, are struggling to find their place in America and their own piece of the American Dream! I commend you for always sticking up for your rights and thoughts and I condemn all those who try to sweep these issues under the gigantic rug that is ignorance.
