You sent me flowers, wrote me elegant sonnets
Tormented me until I couldn’t deny you
You held me close, and promised I would never cry
But that was a lie; you broke my heart without thought
And still I love you the more, without a reason why
So, as unworthy as I am, give me leave to follow you
Though you chase another, more beautiful than I
Her hair as red as autumn leaves, and eyes full of dreams
I beg you; beat me, simply to acknowledge I exist
Just don’t cast me away into the dim, cold night
Please, as unworthy as I am, give me leave to follow you
I beg you please, please though you love me no longer
Give me leave, as unworthy as I am, to follow you
