Hypocrite
by David Pekrul
copyright 06-30-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

I write the following with trepidation, as I do not want anyone thinking I am making a personal attack. I consider you all to be my friends. I write this only to make us all think. I write this to myself as much as others. I do not point any fingers, for as I was once told, "When you point a finger at others, there are three fingers pointing back at you"

You say you love your neighbour,
and we should do likewise,
yet you talk behind one’s back
if they dress differently,
or speak in a foreign tongue,
or have skin a different shade from yours,
HYPOCRITE!

You say, “Thou shalt not steal”,
yet you cheat on your income tax,
or fail to tell the store clerk
that she has given you too much change.
HYPOCRITE!

You say you won’t attend a church,
mosque, synagogue or temple
because they are full of hypocrites,
yet you will spend hours in the local pub,
surrounded by some
who pose as good family-men,
yet cheat on their wives,
or you befriend so-called law abiding citizens,
who think that driving faster than the posted speed
is just part of the game.
HYPOCRITE!

Don't you see?
There are hypocrites everywhere,
in every walk of life,
every station and income level,
every religious institution,
every workplace,
every place of entertainment.

To say that you will not attend church,
or be seen in public with
“this type of person”
or
“that type of person”
because they are hypocrites,
then form your own associations
based only on appearance,
is in itself hypocritical.

Most people who support
the local pub
are not hypocrites,
but there are some who are.

Most people who attend church,
the mosque, synagogue or temple
are not hypocrites,
but there are some who are.

Most people in your workplace are genuine
and true,
but there are some who are not.

“Whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise,
think on these things.” (KJV Bible)

Well with me being a libra I could go either way with this rant, I am going to leave it alone, for this reason. I love the ending to this and I am glad I read it. You are right, no mattter what you said previously, that's your opinion, and I kinda do agree with it, but the latter is what the focus should be and so I do agree whole hardedly. Great write, good job, thanks,

Regina

So many people are hypocrites, my self included. Well not all the time. Every once and awhile I will catch myself, being a hypocrite. Sadly, I think almost everyone has done something hypocritical, whether it's small or big.

You must have been a preacher in another life. You talk well(write) and what you have to say is always valid. Your opinion seems to be like mine in many ways. I try to be fair and open to all, but I do admit fault....both times! Good write, Anthony

I couldn't agree more! I think hypocrisy is all around us. It's wrong to do such a thing, but everybody does it at least once in their lifetime, and it's hard to admit it. For me it is anyway, since I act nice around one person, but then go back to my friends and talk bad about that person. Great write!

I like this one a lot, David, you are out there writing with your feelings, challenging your readers to think also. If anyone is offended they shouldn't be reading poetry that's for sure. The form and style here are strong and I really think you believe in your own words and that makes them believable to others...Nice going.
