  Pining For You

My mind replays the memories
I have of you and me.
The letters that spoke of forever
how short that seems to be.

I feel your love inside my heart,
now though its mixed with the pain.
I stand and pray, in the moonlight,
for you to return, once again.

The memories are still so vivid,
the pain still brings me to tears.
Could you have known the pain won't go
its here after all these years.

What is it that keeps me pining?
When I realize I can't have you.
Why did I try to hang on
everything tells me we're through.

Who's in control, me or my heart?
I can't get you out of my mind.
I think of before and pray for more,
that's not how love is defined.

My friends all say, "Get on with your life!"
That I must get over you.
How can I move on, your memories not gone,
I don't know what I'm going to do!

I love how nice this flows and I think you picked all the right words here! I don't think that there is a person alive who's been in love that doesn't know how this feels.... The wanting to return and the can't letting go is such a common dilemma for a lot but you almost make it unique! Great Job!

This flows nicely, and tells of one lost in limbo, as it were. Eventually life has to go on, but for those lost in 'love limb', it can take forever.

The worst war a man can fight is between his mind and his heart. Sometimes we want what isn't good for us and other times, what is good for us does not appeal to us. Go figure! This poem is straight from the heart and sadness and pain are felt from beginning to end. It flows smoothly and evenly. Time cures all wounds. Very well done!
