We use the word Hero,
to describe everyday acts.
Something done in the face of danger
and watch all the press it attracts.
I thought I'd tell you a story
about a hero died in seventy one.
He was forced to rise to the occasion
won lots of medals before he was done.
Son of a poor Texas sharecropper,
rose to fame in World War Two.
Led his men against the enemy
and did all that he could do.
Six tanks and waves of infantry
attacked his men and he made them retreat.
He jumped atop a burning tank,
He was not going to accept defeat.
Bullets began to hit him
in the legs, the arm and the head.
He kept firing the fifty caliber
till over two hundred were dead.
This act of unwavering bravery,
saved the lives of many men.
He received the medal of honor
from the country he chose to defend.
Left the army in nineteen forty five
to make movies in Hollywood.
Stared in a movie about himself,
so his bravery could be understood.
He never turned his back on the soldier.
He fought Congress up till the end.
He wanted the country to give back
to the soldiers who stood up to defend.
He died in a plane crash in Virginia.
Thick fog caused the plane to fall.
Audie Leon Murphy was someone
that should be an inspiration to all!
(Audie Murphy won 24 medals from the United States, 3 from France and 1 from Belgium. The war movies he was in were called "To Hell And Back" and "The Red Badge Of Courage" if you watch old movies you probably have seen him in many westerns (something around 40 of them. He was a boyish looking man, not one that would make you think he was very brave! A real hero, he didn't act like it, he just was! Thought you might like the info, Anthony)
