I wish could take back all of
The things that I've cursed upon you
But I can't help but to still feel bitter
About the nights you left us to cry
And I wonder why
And to feel the pain
Watch you gulp every last bit
Of the boose
You caused horror and pain
Ripping me apart inside
Then I realize that you are trying
To get better
But look me in the eye
And tell me that you honestly can't
Accomplish what you ever so want, to stay sober
Because you haven't, not one bit
You have to try harder
Because I can't take it anymore
Yet will I ever be able to forgive
The pain you bestowed upon my heart
Can I ever forgive you?
Will I ever forgive you?
But maybe, just maybe
Forgiveness is the only
Way to start over

Paul, I want you to listen very carefully to what I'm going to tell you. This may be a shock to you, but more often than not, God will send an angel in the form of a daughter or a son to help a parent out with a multitude of problems. It sounds far-fetched, but it's really not! Parents are people, not geniuses! Just because your mother is your parent, doesn't mean that her Spirit is stronger than yours. A child should always be able to forgive his parents, not matter what they do! Your mother will heal! But she needs your help! Be proud of her, whether she overcomes this addiction or not! Be there for her! Supporting her while she goes through this difficult time is your duty as a son! Never turn your back on her! With your help and God's help, you both will overcome this malady and you will both heal! You can do it!

I say that you are being really brave. If I had an alcoholic parent, I think I'd die. This is a really good poem and it moved me on how you're sticking up through it all. Hold on to that strength!! You're going to need it in order to forgive.

Hey, my father is sadly the same way. Alcohol is an addiction. A desease. And it always helps the person to quit drinking if they really WANT to. Otherwise, there is not much hope. Sometimes your tears and words are never enough to actually make or help them stop, but it's not your fault.

Paul,
I feel your pain. Forgiveness will bring you peace. I am a daughter of an alcoholic father, who is in recovery. I know all about the 12 step program that is available. You might want to try Alanon as alcoholism is a family disease. I will pray for you and your mom.
