Global warming and the climate of fear. Another rant.
by Brian Dickenson (Age: 73)
copyright 07-03-2005

Age Rating: 13 to 127

What is the true cause of global warming?
The big question.

Is it man made, as we are constantly being told? Or is it just a normal event in the history of this planet.
Some scientists tell us that it has all happened before, many times.

We are told the sea levels will rise, and we will have massive flooding.
So what’s new about that?
There have been global floods before. And if the Bible is right, Noah knew all about them.

Others say we are the cause, and must make sacrifices to combat it. Explaining the dire consequences if we do not.
Who is right?

Sacrifices. Do they really do any good at our level? Switch a light off. Turn off a tap. Cut back on our motoring. These and other things we are told we must do.

I imagine if things were put into perspective, we would find our contribution has a negligible impact on what is needed. But it does engender more fear.
Are we being conned again?

During WW2 here in the UK, women were asked to donate their precious aluminium saucepans. The government told them it was patriotic. The pans would make Spitfires and Hurricanes. The aircraft that would win the war.

Years after the war had ended it was disclosed that the whole thing had been a stunt to make people feel that they were ‘doing their bit’, as the saying went.
Were they conned?

What is obvious, is that we are being kept in a climate of fear. Just like Orwell's 1984. And make no mistake, big brother is watching. We are being controlled more now than in any time in the history of mankind.

Electronic spies have far outstripped anything that human spies could accomplish.
Whenever we communicate electronically, machines can, and do listen. All it needs is the right word to start them recording.
Just as here on PnP a rude word will trigger a response, not letting it get through. It is all automatic.

Now in the UK they are about to bring in
I D cards. These will contain every scrap of information about us.
I should imagine that they could be tracked electronically, so wherever we go, and whatever we do will be known.
All this in the interests of safety. Maybe so, but who’s safety?. Ours or our rulers?

At the time of the Russian revolution the then government of this country, introduced gun laws, not to protect the people. But to safeguard the ruling class from a similar revolution. They were terrified of power to the people.
Of course all that really happened in Russia is that they swapped one ruthless ruler for an even more ruthless one.

Of course this begs the question, who are the rulers, the people in charge?
I think it’s a fair assumption that it is not the politicians that we put into power.
Money drives society, and the money is in the hands of big business. Money buys power and people.

Governments come and go. Ministers, some, who could not run a corner shop, are nominally at the head of departments. Mostly they have no idea how these departments work. And probably are never in that position long enough to find out, due to cabinet reshuffles, or change of government.

They rely on the faceless suits known as civil servants, who are there whichever party is in power. Lots of whom have been found in possession of the ubiquitous brown envelope, handed to them by so called lobbyists, or touts, whichever fits.

In all, a pretty depressing picture.
However, if we look at history, everything is transient.
Rulers and empires come and go. They take centre stage for a brief moment, but that is the limit for them.
It’s the people who survive, and even in the worst case scenario of global disaster, be it weather or war. I think we are here for a long time to come.

You have made a lot of good point here, Brian. I believe that Global Warming is a bit of a con job, the same as the oil shortage was in the 1970's. In fact, we are having a very cold April this year, and I would love to see a little global warming come our way. lol.
Although I'm thankful that we in Canada do not have gun problems running rampant in our society like that in the USA, our leaders implemented a gun registry a few years ago. It turned into a joke, as all it did was aggravate the hunters and farmers and did nothing to curb crime. It cost the taxpayers millions of dollars and was finally scrapped by the next new government.
I could go on and on commenting on your points, but I think, in most cases, we are on the same page.

This was a thought-provoking commentary. A lot to think about.

Hi Anthony, do you mean Simpson, lol.

Freedom is a word much abused.
We have an illusion of freedom, but that's all it is.
Slowly our freedoms are being eroded by new 'safety measures', all of course designed to keep us safe, and the enemy from our door. Just like 1984.

I always joke about the fact that we are free, but only get to pick from two. We must choose the lesser of two evils most of the time...except that guy that invented the internet...was his name Bart? LOL
