I'm sorry Toni. I didn't really ever know Andrew but I know you were good friends with him. I agree with Rich though. Don't be mad at your friends for too long because you may never see them again. I remember when it happened though. I didn't want to talk to Peter because I was afraid I'd say something wrong and upset him or something. It was hard to imagine how they got by. I still don't know how they do. But it's a great poem. I love you.
Your sis,
~Cassie~

The reality of this is sometimes scary and the fact that it happens way too often. I saw my sister being run over and saw the driver drive off and leave me and my sister there on the road....luckily she survived. But it makes you think what on earth they were doing driving...drunk or not drunk there are responsibilities when you have the keys in your hand and when you're at the wheel if you can't accept them don't drive. This is great poem but i'm sorry it happened.

Great message and very well said-
one of the reasons I try never to get angry with my friends..... I may not ever see them again.
Sometimes life is full of stark reality.
Anyway.
Good read

After I read your story I relised how painful the effects of drunk driving are. Wow.

I'm so sorry. I couldn't even begin to imagine how you feel. You visuals are very effective. That is as close as I want to get. I hope people who do drink and drive read your message and pay attention before getting behind the wheel again. I use to know a guy who drank and drove and he went to prision for involuntary manslauter of a little boy that he killed will drinking and driving. he only did two years. he is dead now he was riding his motorcycle drunk one night and his wife was following behind him in her car. He lost control of his bike and hit the wall of a bridge and flew off the side right in front of her face. I feel sorry for her but I can't really feel sorry for him. He never stopped. I think he got the bike on purpose because he could never forgive himself. Anyway, good job thank you

What does it take to make some people listen? This is sad and tragic, but you said it well.
As most people know, I have to point out the grammatical errors, so here goes:
"It never should 'of' (should be 'have')
"Then when the news came I couldn't believe what I 'have' (should be 'had') heard
You 'have' (should be 'had') left us and you were never coming back"
All in all this is a good write and shows great emotion.

I'm very sorry that you had to go through that. A very good and important message at the end though. Every day drunk drivers take away our friends and loved ones.. hopefully, one day not too far away, it will stop. Take care Toni, this was a beautiful piece. Keep up the good work.

There is a boy out here who was a Jr in high school. He went to some parties and got drunk with his friends he had known since he was in diapers. They were driving home, less than five minutes from their house when they crashed. They had been best friends their entire life...and he was the only to survive.
Because he had gotten drunk the same night of his prom, he was responsible for killing his five best friends.
He now goes around to the schools and talks. He's my age. We all knew them, at least through friends...they were the goof offs, the softball players, the ones who made you smile no matter what. And now they're gone. And he has to live with that.
This is a horrifying truth, and I'm sorry that you had to go through this. It's one of the worst pains I can imagine.
Amazing work, Toni. I'm sorry you had to go through this.

This is reality! Too many of us not wanting to realize that drinking and driving is a potential license to kill. But most people do not realize this until it's too late. Your poem is a great example of the pain that irresponsible people inflict on humanity. I hope someone who's about to drink and drive reads this poem, maybe it will change their mind!
