Why can't there be majestic pink space unicorns
Flying so free in space, laughing at the stars
They would look down on us and smile
Knowing that we knew nothing of them
Why can't fictional characters be real
They would save us from the evils of reality
And they could be our friends
When we have no friends that will listen
Why is there no longer talk of magic and spirits
These things were once believed as fact
It made imaginations come alive
It made miracles possible to the common man
Why must it be impossible that these things exist
I haven't seen proof of their nonexistance
Yet no one believes in majestic pink space unicorns
No one believes that Sailor Scouts will save us
Why have we lost our sense of wonderment
That innocent belief we had as children
Is it because these things aren't real
Or are they not real because no one believes

Beautiful! This is one of the best poems I've seen all day. "Is it because these things aren't real
Or are they not real because no one believes"
That is my favorite part. I used to say the same thing. Very good work!
Great write Andrew. As long as you can remain young at heart and look at the world through a child's eyes you can still see these things. Take care and Have fun. Steve
Science and 'knowledge' in higher form has supposedly taken the place of the old legends and myths, but I think that lurking in a shadowy corner of almost every mind, there remains a smidgen of belief. This is why Harry Potter is so popular with kids and adults and look at Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" and that fantasy fiction is more popular than ever. I am not going to be one that denies the possibilities.
As people grow older, they tend to forget some of the things they believed in as children, or just lose faith in them. I, myself, admit that I lost faith in the Sailor Senshi for a while...when I was in my ages 10-11 stage. I jumped right back right before I turned 12, and realized I was totally abandoning Sailor Moon! XD I really love this poem. If you believe, anything can happen.
Well Andrew, maybe it depends on where you live.
There is an island of our coast, the Isle OF Mann.
They believe in the little people, really believe, not just for tourists.
They are not a quaint other worldly sort of people. In fact they have a Parliament that dates back unbroken for a thousand years, I think it's the oldest continuous one in the world.
There is one quite famous bridge, 'Fairy Bridge'.
If you cross without greeting them politely, you will be in trouble.
I guess I lost my innocence a looooooooooong time ago. But I still believe in magic and fairy's. No one has proved to me that they don't exist.
I have actually written a novel which includes magic and dragons, etc.
One of my all time favourite stories is Peter Pan.
Keep believing, Brian.
I think you raise a very valid point. Innocence is lost once we reach a certain age. I think that this is an injustice to all. But it doesn't have to be this way. We can still talk to that inner child in us that never dies, then perhaps we can still believe in Pink Space Unicorns. Some of your lines are a bit odd, like:"Why must it be impossible," I would think that, "Why is it impossible," would make more sense, but I don't know if you did this on purpose. By the way, where did your punctuation go?
