The Way

  The Way

I've got to write a poem
with some new kind of style.
One that flows,
and with it goes,
I hope a beautiful smile.

The words have to have meaning,
could make you laugh or cry.
Its got to be good,
but I'm sure it would,
if I give it my best try!

Its sure to be different,
for it can't be the same.
Got to be new,
not about me or you,
or the rules of playing the game.

Can't talk about old lovers,
or what could break your smile.
I know I can do it,
if I can just get to it,
But I know it will take a while.

It just seems so hard
to pick a new way to write.
Can't think very straight,
and its getting late,
the way seems to escape my sight.

What starts out rough,
doesn't seem to get slick.
Because it doesn't feel good,
to not know if you could,
sometimes it makes you feel sick.

I know that its out there
and that I will find it someday.
It will make me smile,
it will last for a while,
if I can just find,... The Way!

i think it is the other way around 99% inspiration and that will take you through until you are satisfied it's energy that is to be ridden and not controlled and then the other 1% is of course perspiration that might last the whole duration but if your inspired its impossible to be tired just pick up a pen and and say amen then let the games begin my friend the end.

Nice, I liked it. =)

Anthony, if you have read my poems (and you have, thank you)you should have noticed that they are all written in a different form, a different meter, and a different rhythm pattern...I also experiment with rhyming patterns all the time....Some of my favorite poems were total experiments that worked! For every poem I've kept, I've discarded dozens that wouldn't work the way I wanted them to. Experimenting with form and revising are the two things every poet should feel free to do.

My problem lately in not about writing style, but what to write about. I think I'm going into a slump (keep thinking, Dave, keep thinking)

Well, Anthony....I've struggled through this before, and the best way to write, is to just write in a way that feels natural. Try different forms, and things like that.

This is very cute!

Whatever we do seems to be 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration-- even among the greats.
You're in good company.

Jim
